New Stars Set to Sparkle

Tashkent has hosted the Asian championship and the “Happy Caravan” international tournament in artistic gymnastics. The Asian championship and the “Happy Caravan” international tournament in gymnastics took place at the capital’s Republican Children and Juniors Calisthenics Specialized Sports School of Olympic Reserves on 4-8 June. More than two hundred gymnasts from Uzbekistan, South Korea, Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Israel, Russia have taken part in the competitions organized by the Asian Gymnastics Union, the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan and the Federation of Gymnastics of our country under the auspices of the International Federation of Gymnastics. A considerable attention is being paid under the leadership of President Islam Karimov to the development of children’s sports, the comprehensive upbringing of the younger generation, the extensive engagement of girls into physical culture and sports. In this process, a special significance is attached to the popularization of the most gracious type of women’s sports – the artistic gymnastics, to training highly qualified coaches and the comprehensive support for their activities. The establishment of local federations and centers for artistic gymnastics across the country has been facilitating the growth in the number of girls regularly going in for this type of sports. The enthusiastic promotion of artistic gymnastics in our country helps the physical and spiritual development of girls and at the same time is vital in fostering athletes capable of commendably upholding the honor of our nation in the international arena. This has been confirmed again at the Asian championship and the “Happy Caravan” international tournament in gymnastics that took place in our capital. During four days the contests included single and group final competitions in all-round events and exercises with certain gymnastic items. The sport fans could hardly hide their admiration for the gymnasts performing with the application of hoop, ball, Indian club, ribbon, and their sense of music and rhythm, agility and grace. In the most excited moments, the winners and prize nominees stood out for the award ceremony. Under the load applauds of the spectators, the prize winners in single and group competitions came into the field. In the final competitions of the Asian championship with certain gymnastic items, our gymnasts Jamila Rahmatova earned one silver and three bronze medals, and Mayya Filippova won a bronze medal. In group exercises with three hoops and two ribbons, the representatives of China came first. Also, the most junior sports girls have demonstrated their abilities and skills at the traditional international tournament Happy Caravan. Nilufar Shomuradova proved second in Indian club exercises, so did Zulfiya Yuldasheva in applications with ribbon. In group competitions, Uzbekistan’s representatives won silver and bronze medals each. The official ceremony wrapped up with a gala concert involving celebrities.
